Katina Ceremony

This year we are celebrating Katina Ceremony on the date of November 10th, 2024 at NMR Meditation Center.

Kathina is an important celebration in the Buddhist calendar. This festival celebrates the Buddhist community joining together to present the monks in their monastery with new robes. Buddhist monks dedicate their lives to their religion and only have eight possessions, all of which are gifted to them.
What do you do on Katina?
Traditionally, to generate merit or good karma, lay followers make offerings of the four requisites—food, clothing, medicine, and shelter—to replenish the monastery’s supplies after the long monastic retreat. Historically, the kathina is especially for the offering of monastic robes.
