This holiday is also known as Boun Awk Phansa\, and it marks the end of a three-month period for Buddhist monks who have been in meditation retreats. During this time\, monks are not allowed to leave the pagoda they meditate in\, so locals bring them food\, towels\, soap\, slippers\, and other necessities.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe holiday encourages generosity\, and some ways to practice this include:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDonating to a charity or Buddhist monastery\nMaking candles for a local temple\nMaking offerings to monks or temples\nPresenting food and other necessities to monks\nParticipating in Dharma sermons\nCleaning and decorating public buildings\, homes\, and important Buddhist places\nOrganizing lectures\, exhibitions\, or discussions at educational institutions\, government offices\, and temples\nAbstaining from animal flesh consumption and harming \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOther activities that people do to observe Buddhist Lent include: Fasting\, Listening to Dharma teachings\, Practicing meditation\, and Giving alms to monks.

DESCRIPTION:Chulalongkorn Day Ceremony\n \nThe NMR Meditation Center is celebrating Chulalongkorn Day on October 20th\, 2024. The day is also known as Piyamararaj Day. It is an annual celebration on 23nd October to remember one of the most famous rulers of Thailand\, King Chulalongkorn. His full name was Phra Bat Somdet Phra Poraminthra Maha Chulalongkorn Phra Chunla Chom Klao Chao Yu Hua. The day is usually celebrated on his death anniversary\, October 23. But the day is observed on Monday if the actual date falls on a Sunday. King Chulalongkorn was responsible for many central and popular reforms that improved the people’s living standards. It made him one of the most loved monarchs in the history of Thailand.
