DESCRIPTION:Sart Thai day Ceremony\nSart Thai\, also known as Sat Thai\, is a traditional Thai festival that takes place on the new moon at the end of the tenth lunar month. It has many animistic features\, which attribute spirits to plants\, animals\, and other entities. The festival is believed to be a merit-making activity for deceased relatives. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe festival involves the following merit-making ritual\, known as Sart Duen Sip\, which consists of three steps and lasts three days:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHmu Rub: Arranging the ritual on the 13th night of the waning moon\nGratitude: Bringing food to the temple to express gratitude to deceased relatives and help release them if they are suffering in hell\nMerit: Believing that any good deeds or merits committed on this day will be fully received by the deceased\, who will have a higher chance of paying off their karmic debts and be reborn \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the festival\, people place food on an elevated platform as offerings for the deceased who have no relatives. After a while\, the food is considered “consumed” by ghosts and therefore up for grabs by ceremony participants\, who believe that eating a ghost’s leftovers is considered good luck. Sart Thai is one of the most valuable Buddhist festivals to be observed countrywide.
